Boredom's End — an open paperback book cracking apart into a rolling die
How it works

Three steps. No talking yourself out of it.

Boredom's End isn't a suggestion list you scroll through until something feels easy. You commit before you see the roll.

Set

Pick your mood

Calm, Curious, Wired, or Social — tell the app where your head's at, and it pulls from an activity pool that actually matches.

Roll

Let the die decide

Tap roll and a 30-sided die locks in one activity from your mood, filtered by how far up your Risk Dial is turned.

Commit

Do it, on the clock

The app locks until your timer runs out. No rerolling because you don't like the answer — that's kind of the whole point.

Features

Built to get you off the couch, on purpose

Every system exists to make randomness feel worth trusting — not chaotic, just a little out of your control in a good way.

Mood-matched activities

Four moods, each pulling from its own pool — Calm, Curious, Wired, and Social — so a roll never fights the energy you're actually in.

The Risk Dial

Set your ceiling — Mellow, Adventurous, or Reckless — and the die only rolls activities at or below it. Turn it up when you're feeling bold.

Commitment timer

Once you roll, the app locks for a set duration. No backing out, no reroll — you do the activity, then you're free to roll again.

Offline, always

No account, no login, no connection required. Boredom's End works exactly the same in a basement as it does with full bars.

600+ curated activities

Six years of writing, testing, and tagging — every activity sorted by mood and risk tier, so the pool never feels thin.

Reckless-tier safeguard

Dial all the way up and you'll hit a one-time checkpoint reminding you that a suggestion isn't an instruction. Your judgment, your call.

Why it exists

A paperback game, a flood, and six years of rebuilding it from memory

Boredom's End is a love letter to an out-of-print paperback game and a twenty-sided die, played through high school and into college with friends. Some of the best stories from those years came from activities nobody would've picked on their own — done because the game said so. When the original book was lost in a flood, this became the way to bring that feeling back: something entirely random, chosen on purpose, just to see what happens.
